Doctor Sues Mercy Medical Center North Iowa
A doctor fired at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa is suing the Mason City based hospital.
Dr. Julie Howard filed the suit on Monday, looking for damages for what she and her attorney say was her wrongful dismissal 2 years ago.
Howard was fired at Mercy in June of 2009 for allegedly accessing medical records of a patient who was not under her care.
That would be a violation of the federal health privacy law know as HIPAA.
Howard has denied any wrongdoing and says she was terminated without notice or any chance to respond to the allegations.
Dr. Howard, who now lives in Stephens City, Virginia, is seeking lost wages and damages.
